Re: After the street fight - part 2
It was some time later before Teddy tried to reason with the Super Skrull. Teddy swallowed thickly. “This has to be a mistake,” he finally tried.
“There is no mistake. You are Dorrek the VIII, heir to the Skrull Empire, son of Princess Anelle and grandson of Dorrek the VII, now passed.”
“No?”
“Yes.”
“You’re confusing me with someone else. You have to be. You said it yourself. I do not even look like a Skrull. I’m just a mutant.” But even as he said it, an image of his mom came to his mind, her skin green and chin lined just as Kl`rt’s was. Whatever Teddy might look like, she had been a skrull. That last memory though only made the raw hurt inside sting freshly. How could he not know? Why had she said nothing? Worse, how could she be gone?
“Nevertheless... Dorrek-.”
“It’s Teddy.”
“... Prince Dorrek,” he insisted. “When we return to the Empire, there will be much work to do. The people must be reunited. You are destined for this. It has been prophesied.”
“But...” Teddy pushed on his feet some, straightening a little. His muscles were starting to feel less like jello. “You can’t... I can’t leave here. This is my home.” Super Skrull ignored him this time, tapping at keys and reading over some symbols. ”Besides, those skrulls back there were trying to kill me. Why?”
Kl’rt faltered slightly at his typing, then continued on, voice brisk, anger in his eyes. “Our people scatter. Some rush into the arms of the religious zealots. Some have grouped into factions eager to conquer their own planets. We must become united once more if we are to reclaim our glory and survive. To these defectors you are a possible obstacle to their plans. They wish to kill you while you are young, so that they might take power.”
“But I didn’t ask for any of this. Leaving Earth is the last thing I want to do.”
Kl’rt responded by baring his teeth in irritation without reply. Teddy sagged again, processing the information, twitching his muscles every now and then. The nausea was gone, but something was keeping him from being able to shift still.
Finally Kl’rt went to the machine and turned it off. Teddy felt a queer sliding sensation in his wrists. The tubes were now clear and empty.
“All done?” he asked Kl’rt.
“Yes, but you will not be permitted to-.”
“Good.” Teddy stamped his feet down, and pulled.
The cuffs gave an electronic screeching sound as their parts stretched, their hulls breaking apart from the walls, then the wires gave, stretched to the snapping point. Teddy slammed one on the back of the console, breaking it, and ripped the other one off and hopped away from the crowded platform.
Now he could shift. Giant claws burst out from his hands, armor jut from his shoulders as his hide thickened, dark green. His blue eyes were fiery as he looked at Kl’rt, stretching so he was even size with the bigger Skrull warrior. Kl’rt himself looked surprised, looking from the machine to him quickly.
“You possess super strength?”
Kl’rt did not seemed worried though. And why should he be? Teddy thought. If it comes down to a fight between us, even with him injured, I don’t think I can win. “Yeah. And look, it’s not that I don’t appreciate your plight, but I’m a little... emotional right now. And confused. Only thing for certain is that I am not leaving.”
“I cannot permit that. Still, this must mean the rumors are true. He must be your father.”
Teddy was startled. “My father?”
But then an alarm started to sound on the ship. Kl’rt gave a disgusted, cat like growl as he looked up at the red lights. “Intruders.”
