Billy was so focused on his hot chocolate that he hadn't even noticed the couple or the mistletoe. He chuckled at Teddy and smiled. "Hot chocolate is pretty damn epic," he said and continued walking -- toward the mistletoe -- as if this were some giant cosmic tease for poor Teddy Altman. He stopped for a moment and tilted his head, staring up at the sky in thought, before glancing at Teddy again. "I like a lot of things." He took a sip of his drink and tried not to stare at Teddy's smile. It was a really nice smile.
Teddy stuffed his hand in his pocket then took a sip of his hot chocolate. "I like scary movies," he said, "even if they creep me out a little bit." He paused and grinned. "Especially with creepy clowns." He scrunched his nose. "I had a bad experience with a clown when I was a kid." He tilted his head as he stared at the sidewalk -- still not seeing the mistletoe overhead as they continued forward -- and made sure he didn't step on any cracks. Better not to jinx anything, right? "Comic books," he said with a nod as he turned to Teddy. "I really like comic books." He shrugged. "Lame I know but superheroes are cool." He paused. "I like playing with my little brothers sometimes. It's just fun to be a kid again, you know?" He took a deep breath to try and figure out what else to say.
Eventually, he stopped and turned to Teddy. "And Norse mythology." He gave him a nod. "Most people get Green Eggs and Ham for bed time," he said, "I got tales of Odin and Thor and Freya." And, look at that, they were conveniently underneath the mistletoe unbeknownst to Billy. "And I like green," he said, "I know I don't wear it, but that's mostly because green doesn't really look good on me, but I like all kinds of green things." He chuckled and smiled. "How's that for a list?"
"Oh," he began, "I left one more thing off." Billy blinked, cupping his hot chocolate with both his hands this time tracing the lip of the lid with his thumb, hazarding a quick glance at Teddy before he cleared his throat before he hesitantly said: "You." His cheeks flushed and he hoped that he hadn't just screwed up royally by admitting something he shouldn't have, but... Well, he might as well put it out there, right? The last book he read said that nothing was ever gained from not taking a chance. So, here was Billy Kaplan taking a chance. Here's hoping it didn't go horribly wrong.
