Picking out something suitable wasn't as easy as he thought it'd be. He'd been staring at rings for hours. They all were starting to look the same to him, really. The man behind the counter had been very patient with him, but it was probably because he'd walked in wearing a rather expensive suit. People treated you better when you looked like you came from money, and he was having a day and didn't want any extra fuss.
The velvet lined boxes sat in front of him as he examined every ring closely, like it'd actually affect his decision. The truth was, it probably wouldn't. He was thinking maybe gold, because it'd match his costume, but Apollo didn't wear a costume all the time. Then there were the simple bands and the more intricately designed bands, but they all seemed to lack something. He didn't want to settle for 'good enough'. He wanted to purchase perfect.
He was staring intently, not even looking at the rings anymore when he saw it. It wasn't any of the ones the man had brought him, but it was sitting in the showcase right in front of him. It'd been sitting there the whole time. Rising from his seat, he walked around the table to where it was and examined it closer. Kneeling down, he wanted to see if he liked the look of it up close as he did from far away.
It was black, had a simple yet classy design, and most importantly, what drew him was the size and position of the stone. "This one," he said pointing to it without even bothering to ask to see it. A few details later, he had an appointment set for a pick-up.
So many things had gotten in the way of his proposal to Apollo, but it was starting to feel like things were falling into place. Having the ring made it easier. He was just going to ask before, but he felt like doing so in a traditional way would make a nicer memory. Considering all the ones they'd lost, all the new ones they created together were important.
