Erik opened with his queen's knight, a move far more aggressive than Charles. But then again, that comparison could easily be made and drawn parallel to other events and ideologies in their lives. He gazed at his opponent discerningly. His friend in times past, his opposition in times recent. Charles was the seeming one constant in his life, for good or for ill.
"It has never been my intention, contrary to how I have been misrepresented, to bring harm to any civilians, human or mutant alike. I do not wish humanity ushered into cages and labeled any more than I wish that for our kind. But I do not see news reports of mutant activist pundits calling for humanity to be regulated, controlled, and counted. Perhaps you might direct me to these news sources so I might see the concern as equitable between our two peoples?" The last question was a bit biting, and in poor taste, and Erik was already somewhat apologetic the moment it left his lips.
"Forgive me, that tone was uncalled for. But the fact remains, even a one-sided fight will result in bloodshed. Even if we do nothing, we are already too different. Sure, some of us can simply blend in by choosing to do nothing, but what of the others whose physical mutations do not allow them such anonymity?"
"You may call my fears unjustified, and in that, you may be correct. But the government has their own group now, Charles. Surely you cannot be at least the smallest bit concerned by that. A group of mutants and others of considerable power that are at the beck and call of the military arm of the government. What happens if they are directed toward our kind?"
