It's The End of the World As We Know It Who: Captain Marvel and OPEN to any Space-Faring Types Where: The Far Side of the Sun When: Thursday, November 29, 2012 What: Earth's got a big present coming before Christmas. A giant asteroid hurtling through space. Somewhere lunatics are happy that the Mayans were big darn know-it-alls and the world was going to end. Pssh. Too bad for them at least one Big Damn Hero stands in the way. Rating: PG?
Either the Skrulls were laying low lately, or he'd gotten all of them. All the ones that mattered, anyway. In truth, Genis-Vell was still wrapping his brain around the fact that he had a half-brother right here on this speck of dust and water called Earth. While he wanted to tell Teddy, it was very clear that J'nee did not want him finding out yet, and he would respect her wishes. That they weren't spies made it a tenuous decision. He was pleased to report this excellent news to the Accuser, that another son of Mar-Vell was alive and well, though half-skrull. He knew that while the boy had to hide from assassins of his own species, despite the Skrull Throneworld having been destroyed, a son of Mar-Vell would have a parade in his honor, attended by the Supreme Intelligence and every living hero the Kree could muster.
They had been silent for some time now, possibly deliberating the news. Genis supposed he would have to simply be patient and carry out his mission, protecting Earth from hostile forces beyond its solar system.
Which was why he was hovering in space, confronting a continent-wide asteroid that had come into the system at just the right trajectory to threaten earth. Why it had gone undetected by most, even him, made Genis curious, and he did not like that something so large could even get this close to hurting the humans without his knowledge of it.
He supposed he could blast it, or knock it into Earth's star, but there could be consequences from it, sun spikes or other unforeseen issues. And brute force, while enjoyable, was not always the right approach.
So Captain Marvel scanned the hunk of rock, determining its elemental make-up, and when the nega-bands picked up technology, his eyebrow raised. As far as he was concerned, this was enough evidence to move on the assumption that Earth was being attacked. And an attack on Earth was a declaration of war the Kree would not take lightly.
Certainly not him.
Genis flew closer to it, pushing the bands' scanners to their highest output. "ISAAC, tell me what you're finding here. Life forms? Have you identified the point of origin for the alien tech?"
"Not as of yet, Captain."
"Hmmph. Alright. Scans pick up a large cavity. I'm going in."
"Understood. I will continue to cross-reference with Titan's databases."
As the giant hunk of rock and metal spun, revealing a deep crater, the Kree soldier descended into it, unaware he was not the only one taking an interest in the interstellar missile hurtling toward the third planet.
