"I think Luthor will do great things for this country!"
"Well, that isn't what I am arguing about. I was pointing out what we might expect for someone who is a definite arbitrator of capitalism in an extreme sense."
"If I might interject--again we're falling back into the fallacy of thinking that capitalism is a bad thing."
"Hey, lots of us have already figured out entirely rampant capitalism is."
"(laugh) If it's restricted, it isn't really capitalism, is it?"
"(angry) Luthor is a prime example of someone who uses capitalism to better society!"
"(Gee, someone has a crush...)"
"All right, class. We are getting a bit off topic, here, and I have told you before that we won't have open class discussions if they get less than civil." The teacher looked pointedly at the red-faced girl and the irritated boy glaring at each other. The other two students sighed and rolled their eyes.
Teddy was among the class that was being quiet and not interjecting anything. He was leaning back in his chair, listening and absorbing, his hands laced behind his head. In ethics, he tended to sit in the back and mostly listen, and he was always interested in what was being said.
Honestly, when it came to things like politics, Teddy preferred to not take a definite stance. He was not like most of his teammates. He did not like being pessimistic or opinionated, and was being hopeful that Luthor would do a good job. Somewhere he thought that was what was wrong with the world--everybody looked for the negative and waited for people to screw up. He supposed it was an odd stance for him, being a crime-fighting teen. He saw first hand some of the atrocities people performed. It angered him, and there had been a few nights where he had wondered about humanity, but never to the point he had lost faith in it, and never to the point he thought the villains they left for the police to pick up were beyond any redemption.
People were just...
Teddy caught something out of the corner of his eyes, and caught his breath. The door to the classroom scored a glass window that someone had just walked by. A brunette with brown eyes aimed downward.
He pushed back from his desk onto the chair legs, balancing there to get a second's more of a glimpse...
...The person was gone--and it wouldn't have mattered, because his sudden push back sent him toppling onto the floor.
The class laughed some, the teacher blinking at him as he awkwardly gathered himself up, grabbing his desk, which only pulled it noisily rather than helping to balance him. Clambering to his feet, he smiled sheepishly, feeling his pierced ears turning warm. "Sorry! Sorry..."
"Falling asleep, Altman?" one of the students jibed.
The teacher smiled slyly. "Teddy, maybe you can offer some of your thoughts on how capitalism affects third world countries, then."
Crap... But Teddy sighed, going into how capitalism relies on individual morality of those who wield the money, and thankfully someone picked up the conversation concerning overseas work for low wages, and he was off the hook. Somewhat...
He looked toward the door, blue eyes puzzled. Who was that...?
