Dinah dove right into the throng as he knew she would, which was one of the reasons he liked having her around so much. Between that, the Kung Fu, and the steep competition it was little wonder that they had taken to one another so quickly. Then again there really was no better way to get to know another person than to engage them in hand-to-hand combat on a weekly basis and attempt to make them tap out. At least in the world they both seemed to live in.
He was sort of disappointed that none of the students attempted to attack her, but by now it often seemed that they were more on her side than his own. They thrived on her attention, asked about her when she was not around, and more than anything wanted to show off for her when she was here. Which prompted Danny to change things up when Dinah came to the front, so that instead of breaking up for the day he paired them up in groups of two to demonstrate the moves and take downs they had learned since her last visit. As always, the older boys went out of their way to put on a good show.
"A couple months ago, Jamal could scarcely stand on one leg for an extended period of time", Danny said to Dinah as they observed the students in action and he pointed out where Jamal was performing a series of high flying kicks. "And look at him now. That discipline and work ethic is all his own, he just needed the right tools."
"Sensei, Sensei!" Danny turned to where one of his Cuban students was working. "Have your girlfriend watch ME next!"
Danny laughed at what had become a standing assumption and common joke, but did not have to point the kid out as he was certain Dinah had heard every word. The kid was only nine, but quick on his feet as he went through some evasive maneuvers. "See, see, se-woah!, the kid squealed as he tripped over one of his own feet in his exuberance. "Not so hot."
"No, but you're getting there", Danny said as he offered a hand to help the kid up. The other students were mostly done by the looks of them, having worn themselves out in their haste and excitement to show Dinah everything.
"Alright kids, hit the showers, grab some food on your way out if you're not staying the night, and absolutely do not forget about Thanksgiving on Thursday! If you have no place to go, I want you here and eating. Class dismissed!"
He stepped aside as the students went to Dinah once more on their way out.
