The anchor man sat behind his desk, just like other anchor men on other stations. He was basically saying the same thing as everyone else. “In a surprising turn of events, Metropolis’ own Lex Luthor has won the 2012 presidential elections.” or “The first person not in the two major parties to score a victory in about 30 years.” The news were abuzz with footage of people that were rage sobbing over Mitt Romney’s loss and others saddened by Obama not coming out on top for another four years. Linda was getting ready for her interview with Lex Luthor. She was about to put on her neutral game face. In actuality, she wasn’t in the best of moods. Her face was pretty placid, but she’d have to at least look like this was the place she intended to be, which in actuality, she was. They’d hard lined questions that she could ask him. A smile bloomed on her lips as she wondered how many of her own she could sneak in. She adjusted her hair and her clothes for the hundredth time, along with her earpiece and her mic. She waited for the cue from the studio to begin the short live interview. There were two seats placed. Usually, she just walked over and pointed the mic in their face, but this guy was going to be president, so they made things a little more comfortable and formal. Suck-ups. “Thank you, John," she said to the anchorman, before turning her attention to the man sitting across from her. “Mr. Luthor, thank you for taking the time out for this interview,” she started politely. "It's my pleasure, Miss Park," he said, his tone gracious and smooth. Luthor was dressed in a slate gray suit with a black vest and bright blue tie. He looked cool and collected as per usual as he gave her a brief smile. Linda managed to work in a polite smile in response to his. She had to relax, but she just couldn't find herself at ease with the man across from her. "We all know that you've addressed the nation on the night of the election, but now that things have all settled down, how do you feel now, a week later, about your victory?" "I'm as elated as I was that evening after learning the results," he said, the smile growing a little larger. "But you see, I never told myself that I could lose. Sometimes it's better to only prepare your mind for victory, you see. It keeps your task focused, and constantly in your sight." He shrugged a shoulder, the smile turning now into a light smirk. "To get back to your question, I'm very excited to start next year.” "Well, it's good to see you so excited to start enacting your proposed plans for your term. There was a lot of talk about helping with the unemployment. How would you propose a solution for that?" "Jobs, Miss Park. More of them for more Americans, and they will be offered, along with healthcare soon after I take office. But I don't expect you or those that elected me to simply take my word on it. Other presidential hopefuls have said that more jobs are coming, but never delivered." He smiled understandingly, and shifted to sit a bit more comfortably. "There will be several large construction projects that I intend to see brought to light. The planning of the building will create jobs. The construction process will create jobs. Filling those complete buildings with new workers and their leaders will create jobs. And the job that they do will be beneficial to ALL Americans." "What are you constructing, Mr. Luthor?" "I mentioned better education offered for those in this country, not only in my victory speech, but in my campaigning earlier this year. And I intend on making good on those promises, from pre-kindergarten all the way up to college level courses." The wide smile returned. "I enjoy the company of intelligent people, you see. And I feel that everyone who lives here deserves to have the chance to be just that." “New schools, private and public will be constructed, along with the necessary buildings and bureaucracy for keeping track of them. Next question?” Linda had to admit that was a solid answer. Regardless, she moved on to the next question. "That's a big endeavor you're planning to take on there. What will be happening to LexCorp while you're fulfilling your promises?" He chuckled, giving her a small, but polite smirk. "I always take on big challenges, Miss Park. Any other kind is a waste of my time. LexCorp will pass into the hands of my bodyguard and protege, Mercy Graves. I trust her to continue on the good work that I started with my company." "Then you should be moving forward without any worry," she said before following up with, "Are there any projects you'll be putting hold during your term?" "Absolutely not," he said with a resolute shake of his head. "I don't see why the progress I expect for LexCorp will pause because I'm in office. No. Miss Graves is more than capable of completing the tasks I have outlined. Good luck getting an interview with her, however." A teasing smile made her way. "She's very ... formidable." "That sounds like an interesting challenge," she said with a smile. It came easier this time, mostly because she had been waiting the entire interview to ask this last question. "I'm sure a lot of people, myself included, were wondering what will your relationship with Superman be like once you're in office?" And the smiled shivered a bit on his face. He shifted in his seat and his tone went cooler, more serious. "My relationship with Superman will not change. He and I, in many ways work towards the same goals. Taking on the Presidency will give me more access to see those goals accomplished. I will say that I'll be making even larger strides to work more closely with the heroes that populate this planet." And the small smile returned, somewhat enigmatic. "Closely in new and exciting ways." There was a slight pause at his final statement before, she decided to smile, though somewhat awkwardly. "Well, that will definitely be something to look out for. Unfortunately, that's all we have time for today. It's been a pleasure interviewing you and I'd like to thank you again on behalf of WGBS News for taking some time out your busy schedule to answer our questions. John?" "Thank you, Linda," the man in the studio said in her ear. Assured that the camera had been cut off and all the equipment had been disabled, she stood and calmly removed her earpiece and microphone. "Mr. Luthor," she said politely, before excusing herself. |
