It was uncomfortable, feeling his reactions to things, making a strange feedback loop between her tiny body motions and his emotional reactions.
And she really doubted she was the same as Superman. He was bold and sailed in the sun. She was timid and flit in the shadows. The kindness of the words were genuine, though. So she smiled at that, a hope flickering in her eyes. Her hand was cool when it touched his, settling feather light, feeling the warm emotions of the other more fully.
"I thank you."
Then the light flickered over their head. Her gaze shot up, and her hand recoiled silently, settling still by her coffee mug. She took a slightly deeper breath, releasing it slowly, the mantra in her head. She pushed them down, till they were an undefined mass in her soul, but mostly still and unheard. When her eyes focused back on him again, they were the still, calm indigo once more. There were no more ripples in the pool.
"So what are the benefits of doing such a thing... around authority?"
