Who: Lex Luthor Narrative
When: November 6th, 2012 (after his victory speech)
Where: LexCorp Tower, Metropolis
What: Victory
Rating: PG
The press was swarming the building's entrance below, and several intrepid and bolder reporters had tried to gain entrance through back doors, and one a ventilation duct. Luthor watched all of this from the top-most office of his building, his private office. A series of screens projected along a wall showed them all trying, along with the crowd outside in the full swing of a celebration.
And the man that it all centered around moved away to the window to look upon his city. Yes, his city. Not a city of the masses, or even of the founders of Metropolis. No, Luthor felt personal claim over every piece of property that was included in the city limits. He'd had a part in its rise, hadn't it? Not just a part, he'd been at the heart and start of it all. And now his grip was growing, over more of the country, soon to be all of it.
Lex lit the cigar he'd selected for the occasion, a highly rare and sought after blend, donated generously by one of his supporters. If only that supporter had known Luthor chosen this particular one from his already generous supply, he might burst with pride. Puffing a few times, Lex let the smoke curl from his mouth and nostrils slowly as he looked out over the glimmering city.
Amazing how after over a year of preparation, work, time, effort, and else he could be so calm. Almost as if he'd known the outcome as soon as the idea of taking the presidency had crossed his mind. He'd set his sight on larger goals in the past of course. Expanding his company into new territory, conquering science and technology that hadn't been supposed for decades to come.
...Curious how the victory now could feel so ... hollow. He frowned, puffing again slowly. Perhaps it was because he still had months until he was sworn in. Or a longer time to wait until he could put his plan of government into effect. Or ...
He glanced back towards the screen where the swarm of reporters still doggedly tried to get in, desperate for the first interview. No sign of the one reporter that he'd actually come to be fond of. No. He turned away, lip curling. She'd be at home, most likely, with her husband, the idiot. The fact that she wouldn't be here trying to get that interview as well irked him. Any reporter worth her salt would give up a night spent with family just for this, wouldn't she?
And then he closed his eyes, exhaling softly. All good things in time. She'd be his press secretary. They'd work together, again. He could admit that he missed her company, the way that she challenged him, the more intimate moments they'd spent together before ...
Ahh. That was it. That was why it felt hollow. Luthor chuckled aloud, turning his attention back to the window. Victory was better with company. Someone to share it with, for a time. But again, that could be solved quickly enough, even if it wasn't with Lane's company.
Removing a phone from his pocket, he dialed a number. "I feel like celebrating, and with you, darling. Yes, of course you're excited." He smirked as he snubbed out and then carelessly tossed the barely used cigar into the trash. For a blend that was apparently highly sought after, its amusement was over quickly enough. "I'll be at my penthouse in a half an hour. I'll see you soon." He hung up without another word, straightening his posture and turning away from the window.
There. Problem solved. A night of passion spent with the most attractive wife from his board of director's was plenty enough entertainment. He'd end the affair in the morning, with a message delivered by Mercy.
He was the next President, after all. And had an image to maintain.
