It'd been a while since they'd been alone together. Kate had been working so hard at improving herself and trying to lead the team. Everyone was very dedicated to the whole hero thing, so the least she could do was put in as much effort as they had enthusiasm.
She'd come a long way in a year. She'd learned so much more over the summer than she had in most of her early heroing days alone. Even now, all she felt was a little nostalgia when she ran with Eli. Her movements were smoother. The way she traveled seemed lighter. She was nowhere near as graceful as Nightwing, but moving was a lot easier. The grappling hook Nightwing had gifted her with, was definitely a big help. It was easier to keep up with Eli now, even if she still did fall a little behind.
There wasn't much to learn in other areas, but using her environment to her advantage was definitely up in her favorite lessons. She'd picked up a trash can lid and hit someone in the face with it, sending him stumbling back. She might have broke his nose. There was a miscalculation on the height difference, and she hadn't expected him to dive down for her. So it wasn't completely her fault.
Since she was loaded on weapons, she really didn't need to create anymore, but it was good to practice what she was taught. This made for good practice. She threw the lid aside and planted a foot in her assailant's gut, causing him to double over. "You know, I forgot how much work this is without everyone else."
It was true. She'd become so used to letting the tanks handle all the physical stuff. She had gotten used to standing in the back, giving orders, and shooting stuff.
