Who: Conner Kent (Narrative/Open)
When: [Backdated] September 08, night
Where: a Metropolis High Rise.
What: Conner's Superman.
Rating: G, probably.
So, this was real. He'd never admit it, but Conner had his fair share of dreams about what it would be like when he became Superman. Sometimes he wondered if he would look exactly like him or if there would be subtle differences that would somehow differentiate them. He often wondered if he'd be able to live up to the legacy -- because that was the only word he could use to describe it -- of what Clark had built (or, well, was building). However, he figured he would have at least ten years before ever having to -- literally -- fill the man's shoes. He certainly hadn't expected to wake up one day and have to be Superman. While Metropolis might not be Gotham, it certainly needed its Superman.
The super-hearing had taken some getting used to and so was the various super-visions he had. Poor Clark and Lois, they were never getting the deposit back for their place. Heat vision was a tricky thing. Not as tricky as flying, though. When he woke up this morning, he was hovering in his bed. Every effort that he made to will himself up proved to be... Well, uneventful. Of course, during the moments he stopped caring he hovered tripping over his feet and onto his face. Thank God for invulnerability otherwise he would've broken his nose by now.
Currently, he stood on the edge of the high rise and peered over the edge. Using his ttk was one thing, but flying without the aid of that? That was a whole different ball game. When he asked Clark how he did it, he said it was like breathing. However, that hadn't helped. He half-wondered if it was like a Peter Pan type of deal. Think happy thoughts. Like cupcakes, candy, and boobies. Well, maybe not boobies. He didn't want to slice a building in half with his heat vision.
Sometimes you just have to take a leap. It sounded ridiculous. Sure, he might be invulnerable but there were people down there. Besides, he tried leaping from dumpsters and that hadn't worked. However, it was worth a shot. He needed to figure it out somehow. Besides, he could use his ttk if things went wrong, right?
...right?
He sighed. Conner closed his eyes and tugged the bottom of his Super-Symbol shirt. He was certain going against the traditional Superman grain. Maybe if he could figure this out -- maybe then he could slip on the cape. Taking a deep breath, he steeled himself, held his hands out, and then fell forward.
For an alarming minute all he felt was the rush of gravity pulling him down, he opened his eyes and was about to let out a scream when all of a sudden --- he stopped. Suspended in the air, he was flying. Well, hovering at the moment. He let out a laugh, a feeling of sudden relief washing over him. He closed his eyes, thought happy thoughts, and soared.
Here's hoping he didn't slam into a building.
