In some ways, the noncommittal answer was hardest: and not in the whiny "but I want you to mean something when you want me" way, but in the "will I have to maintain a cover and monitor you, or can I do some SHIELD work" way. It was basic preparation and control, which was part of the reason him offering food was so problematic; it wasn't expected or planned for.
She supposed she could kick him out, and that would be the end of her worries over what he was seeing. But that would also be a dereliction of duty. Yeah, she could call it that: it was willingly letting him go off and do whatever he came here to do without at least attempting to gather information on it beforehand.
Of course, she hadn't really tried the pillow-talk route, but it probably wouldn't have worked anyways: it wasn't natural for either of them. She also wasn't trying very hard to detain or arrest him or even severely inconvenience him. She was ignoring those points at the moment. She couldn't even figure if "Robin" knew that he was a criminal or not.
"Well, send me a text so I know if I'm supposed to be coming back to a dark room," she said. "I don't want to shoot you by accident - or not shoot an intruder." There. Reasonable, laid-back request.
