"That delightful girl, you brought her to Doomstadt." Genis nodded, realizing what had happened quite clearly, able to fill in the blanks in Kristoff's statement. "One thing I've learned in my time on... the Eastern Seaboard," Genis corrected, looking around, "is that culture is the greatest cause of conflict to be had. Different sets of ethics, different values, they clash. It just happens. She is a bright girl and she may even be aware of these differences, but values are internalized. It takes a lot to make them shift..."
Genis continued to take a few bites of food. "I know you'd have no use for platitudes, and I have none to give, but some things just... can't work out. We wish they could... but two people from two very different worlds just don't have a chance. I've learned this at some personal cost myself. I could say if you love her, fight for her affections, try to change her views, or try to change yours... but that's not exactly an easy thing to do, is it?"
