Batgirl watched the revelation wash over Raven's eyes and features. The bit about Bludhaven seemed to have cleared something up for her. Batgirl was happy to help.
Doug startled her with his outburst; he'd just made a different connection. She looked at him, tilting her head in a you didn't know that? sort of way. But then, she supposed he wouldn't know. At least, not for certain. The connection seemed so obvious for Batgirl -- even back when she'd first met Nightwing and later saw a picture of the first Robin -- but then, she had inside information.
And her boyfriend didn't. For the umpteenth time, she hated that she couldn't share everything with her Brave Stupid Boy.
Once Doug had relocated to the ledge, Batgirl held Raven's gaze. Once again, she felt as if she were being read by Raven just as easily as Batgirl could read body language. In fact, the woman was so guarded that she felt Raven was getting more out of the exchange.
If Raven scanned her, she would find that Batgirl was someone who experienced powerful emotions, both positive and negative. She was born and raised to be a weapon, and she lived a life of violence, but she preferred to be her own person and live amongst a family. She was covered in scars -- physical and otherwise -- but craved softness.
She nodded when Raven announced that she would search for Nightwing in Bludhaven. A sense of relief washed over her, as if she couldn't wait for Raven to leave. Not because the woman had actually done anything wrong (that Batgirl knew of), but because being in her presence was unsettling in a way Batgirl could scarcely comprehend.
