INSIDER PREDICTS 'THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF RAND' by G.H. Murrows Mark Black was chairman of the board of directors at the Rand Group for three years, and left in February of 2011 for a position with Roxxon Oil. He offered the Gotham Gazette an insider's view of what he called “a fundamentally flawed company”, and offers a damning profile of the young CEO. “Danny Rand is wholly unqualified to run a business of any size- let alone a multi-billion dollar operation like the Rand Group” says Black. “During my time there, Danny shut down over a dozen major initiatives, that promised huge dividends for the company.” Black continues "...[Rand would] lecture the board about his personal ethics- which are basically a bunch of New Age hogwash- and expect us to step in line with his vision for the company.” A vision which amounted to an activist organization, says Black. “He thinks he's running Greenpeace. This isn't a game, its a business, and his shareholders are footing the bill for his personal crusades.” Black accuses Rand of treating the company as a joke, “...[He] inherited his shares from his father- a personal hero of mine, who built the Group from nothing. And Danny's spends his time running around in spandex and appearing on Oprah, when what he should be doing is tending to his family's legacy.” According the Black, it was Jeryn Hogarth's financial genius that managed to keep the company in the black. “Jeryn was a master- he managed to keep the company afloat during Danny's tenure, but barely. On more than one occasion, he confided in me that he didn't know what to do with Danny. I think if [Jeryn] could have unseated Danny he would have long ago...” Danny Rand gained recognition for grand charitable gestures during his time at the head of the Rand Group, receiving accolades from celebrities and charitable organizations alike. Simultaneously, he has maintained a public persona as the vigilante 'Iron Fist', raising eyebrows in the business community. Financial analyst Callum Loughran from the Tetra Foundation, a respected Washington think tank, offers his thoughts “He's not Tony Stark. Mr Rand's not a genius, and he clearly can't balance the two primary aspects of his life. He sees his position as CEO as an extension of his superhero work- and its killing his company.” Whether Black's comments prove true remain to be seen- but in the meantime, cracks in the facade of the Rand Group will continue to grow... |
