Glancing around, Bobby found himself wearing relatively normal teenage attire, which was a relief considering what he'd seen other contestants wear (or almost wear).
He stood inside what looked like an old lady's home, accompanied by Johnny (they'd swapped pictures earlier in the week) and a brunette. Was this a murder mystery? The thought crossed his mind that this could be a show about teenage sleuths trying to solve a crime. If that was the case, he really hoped the girl -- who kind of looked familiar -- was the brains of this outfit, because all the solving he really knew how to do involved equations. And Johnny was ... Johnny.
The actual plot revealed itself in short order. Bobby looked at his companions, wondering aloud, "maybe we're supposed to solve the cat's murder before the owner arrives?"
Laughter echoed from nowhere, startling him. Despite the creepy old home and the last name of the owner, this kind of laughter wasn't of the horrific variety. Instead, it was more of a canned multi-person chuckle.
Oh no. Bobby looked around, gulping audibly. "That was a studio laugh, wasn't it?" More canned laughter followed. "I think I know what kind of show we're on." That brought more laughter, as well as the kind of music that tended to swell just before a commercial break or opening credits.
