Kory was so intent of putting down one threat after another that she almost didn't hear when the cheer went up. It was caught on somebody's open mike as they reported the presence of a Green Lantern. At first she almost panicked, thinking she was getting static over the comm, and what that might mean.
"A Lantern? Thank X'Hal!" Kory mumbled to herself. Her next thought was, wait, just one? Followed by, one is better than none.
"What's the Lantern's position?" she asked control. This type of work would go better if they made a concerted effort. As soon as she was given the coordinates, she started moving towards them, keeping her eye on the meteors the whole time. Soon she could see flashes of green in her peripheral vision. These people would be saved after all!
She flew closer to John's position, not daring to even glance in his direction to see if it was a Lantern she knew yet. All it took was one of those meteors getting through. Even if the ships' shields held against the main impact, the meteors would just splinter and roll or bounce over the surface of the hull wreaking havoc. The aftershocks alone could irreparably damage whole sections of the transport ships.
If the scientists' calculations were right, they were right in the thick of the meteor shower right now. If they could hold out for just a few more minutes, the worst would be over.
