He did what she wanted and backed away, but somehow, that didn't make her feel better: she felt worse to see the awkward and upset look in his eyes, and in a way wanted to slap at him some more because she didn't like feeling guilty any more than she liked being upset. But not even she could do that.
Shit. It seemed as though she had managed to chase away another boy. But she hadn't really wanted to chase away this one. She needed to work with him. She sat down at the desk, tangling her hands in her stupidly long hair. This never would have happened if this hadn't happened. She could have maintained her emotions and distance forever.
Shit. She got up and strode out the door after him, calling, "Coulson, wait! I need to brief you!" Even if some things were above his clearance level and others he'd figure out on his own. It was the principle of the matter: she could still be professional and bring him up to date on the situation on the 'carrier. This was not a stupid high school crush and drama.
