It always amazed Bobby how someone as ADHD as Jubilee could have such a one-track mind about certain things. Unfortunately for him, gossip was one such subject. And the current topic was one he'd tried to avoid discussing at all costs. Anything from misdirection and temporary bribes to slipping one of the other students a twenty to nullify all the sound in the rec room the moment Jubes had tried to ask the question for the umpteenth time.
Now he wished that student were present. Even the radio wasn't distracting her. Think fast, Drake. "She wasn't an internet stranger, Jubes. I've been talking to her for several weeks before we set up the date. But know, you haven't met her." Literally true. At least, assuming the 'her' in question had been Opal Tanaka, the woman with whom he'd arranged the date. She wasn't the woman Bobby had gone home with -- she hadn't even shown up -- but Jubilee didn't need to know that.
Problem was, he was running out of ways to throw her off the scent.
"Her name's Opal," Bobby finally added, kind of disgusted with himself for saying that. He typically disliked guys who claimed to have slept with women they hadn't. Even at his most dateless and desperate, Bobby could at least claim he wasn't one of those guys. Now he was, and he was using the name of someone who'd stood him up, no less.
Robert Louis Drake had hit a new low. Even worse, he was pretty sure he didn't fool Jubilee for a second.
