It didn't take long for Mick to get his things in order. He hadn't been in Arizona all that long and everything that required paperwork had been under an assumed name. By the time he'd left, the police chief had created a special task force which paired police officers with firefighters. It was all pretty amusing in that useless sort of way.
McCulloch had dropped him on the west coast and James was more than willing to point out the right direction. From the sound of things, Mick hadn't been the first and probably wouldn't be the last. With that, Mick had hit New York City.
He supposed it was a step up from Metropolis that had Superman and some of the Flash friends hanging around. Even though NYC had a lot of capes, it was still better than Gotham. Sure there were scores to be had in some of the less populated cities but it didn't have the same appeal. Besides, a guy had to make a living somewhere.
Mick had found a room for rent by the week (not the hour) then had stashed a few of the more important things (money, gear) safely away. It wasn't the best security but hopefully that would be a temporary situation. He stopped outside the address James had given him and looked the bar over. It wasn't upmarket which was fine by him and it didn't look like it needed to be condemned yet. They'd holed up in a lot of different places over the years.
He stepped into the bar and looked around. He didn't see any familiar faces or colorful parkas. That was fine. They'd be in eventually (provided that James wasn't yanking his chain.) The female bartender gave him a short nod in acknowledgement and Mick took an open seat at the bar.
"What'll it be?"
"Lemonade. And a shot of tequila."
The girl blinked but put her professional smile right back up. "Sure. Coming right up."
