Who: Reed Richards, Tony Stark What: What happens when one bored scientist hasn't slept in a few days? He assaults his other scientist friend with Science! Where: Stark Tower, NY When: August 29th, 3:30 am. Rating: PG for SCIENCE!
He couldn't sleep. To be fair, Reed hadn't really tried to sleep yet. This whole... ordeal with Luthor had left a bad taste in his mouth, and though he and Johnny had finished the Fantasticar with its final paint job, Reed couldn't clear his mind long enough to pick up a new project.
Actually, even with Luthor aside, Reed had a whole multitude of items that needed his attention to some degree or anything: the Jotun Commission, the completion of the Fantasticar, his father's impromptu visit, the renovations that would need to be made to the Baxter Building to make room for the baby... the baby.
And still, no one outside of the Fantastic Four (with a few minor exceptions) knew about the baby.
No, Reed couldn't sleep.
Instead, he took the Fantasticar and went down to the Duane Reade just a few blocks down, leaving his flying car parked above the sidewalk as he ran in to make his purchases. Only a few minutes later, the Fantasticar parked high above the New York streets, near the side of Stark Tower. The top bubble over the car pulled back and Reed stood up, driving with only one knee in the seat as if he were the captain of an anchored pontoon boat on the lake rather than a car, in the air, in the middle of Manhattan.
Reed took the PVC pipes he'd brought from the Baxter Building and applied glue to the seams, screwing them together with the appropriately sized joints. To this PVC pipe contraption, he attached a standard garden hose. Taking a bottle of water from the plastic Duane Reade bag, Reed poured the entire bottle through the rudimentary pipeline and found it thoroughly sealed. Good. The whole thing was combined wiht a belt that Reed tightened around his waist. He then took the rest of his purchases from the bag and lined them up on the dashboard: six 1 litre bottles of Diet Coke and six rolls of Mentos. It only took him a few more moments to create a trigger device that would drop the Mentos into the Diet Coke and force the subsequent surge of soda into the PVC pipes and out the garden hose.
He uncapped the first Diet Coke bottle and put it in an oversized PVC pipe that was now hanging on his hip like a holster. He removed the cap then looked towards Stark Tower, eyeing the top floor that he knew to be Tony's lab before he hit the trigger, spraying the building and timing it to see how long it took Tony to realize that something wasn't right.
