Dear Maj. C. J. S. Danvers,
It is with deep regret that I extend my most profound condolence to you at the loss of your brother, Airman First Class Steven J. Danvers who died August 15, 2012 as a result of wounds received in action on August 13, 2012 at Qalat Sikar Air Base, Qurac.
My name is Master Sergeant Joshua Woolridge and I was a friend of your late brother. I am writing these few lines to let you know a little more about the circumstances surrounding his death.
He played a very gallant part in the bombing of our base last Monday, August 13th, and helped his company Commander when he was wounded to a place of safety. But shortly afterward he was himself hit by a piece of shell and died shortly afterwards, I am deeply grieved to say.
News of your brother's death comes as a great shock to all who knew him and his loss will be felt keenly throughout the base here. I sincerely hope the knowledge that Steven was an exemplary solider and died wile serving his country will comfort you in this hour of great sorrow. He was a good friend and he will be sorely missed.
I wish I could help soften the hardness of your grief, there is one comfort at least in knowing that he gave his life in a sacred cause fighting for Justice and Freedom. It is the greatest sacrifice that a man can make.
His body was released into the custody of Joseph and Marie Danvers on August 19, 2012.
Personally and for all the officers and men and women of this command please accept our deepest sympathy.
Sincerely Yours, Master Sergeant J. Woolridge 37th Airlift Squadron United States Air Force
PS: He looked up to you very much. I know he'd want you to have this back. He said he stole it from you a long time ago.
