Kal lead the way, letting Batman get back to whatever he'd be doing to preoccupy his time. Which undoubtedly would be to skulk or lurk near or above to listen to the entire conversation. He'd have to promise himself not to look up into the shadowy ceiling too much, or give away his friend's location.
Out of politeness and habit, he got Maria a seat first and then one for himself. "I'm very sorry I wasn't there to help with the invasion," he said, sitting up a little and folding his hands in his lap. "I wasn't myself and wouldn't have been much use right at that moment."
