James Rhodes stepped out of the helicopter transport onto the deck of the helicarrier, buttoning his coat. He wore his full dress uniform, complete with cap and black aviators, and had discarded his arm sling for a black briefcase. Brilliant sunlight spilled across the deck as wispy clouds hung in the pale blue morning sky. Rhodes headed immediately for the doors at the base of the control tower on the far side of the deck. Trailing behind him was a man in the dull green uniform of the Marine Corps, and a woman the brilliant white of the Navy. Rhodes reached the airlock, and the doors slid open at his approach. He descended a pair of steep steel stairwells, passed a pair of guards, and reached the threshold for the bridge.
Rhodes stopped abruptly, turning back to the officers following him. "Wait out here." No need to make more of a spectacle out of this than it already is... They nodded, and he walked out onto the bridge of the helicarrier. The sun cast yellow rays into the huge room, over the specialists at their banks of computers. His presence immediately drew the attention of the nearby agents, his army dress standing out amidst the sea of sleek SHIELD outfits. An agent approached him, her long red hair pulled back into a tight bun, a sidearm at her hip. "Excuse me, may I help you sir?"
Rhodes pulled off his aviators and tucked them in his jacket with his right hand "Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes, United States Army. I'm here to see the General." His eyes scanned the edges of the room, immediately noting a door at the far end with the words 'Situation Room'. Rhodes started walking briskly across the bridge, forcing the agent to run to catch up with him.
She stepped in front of him, placing a hand on his shoulder "Sir, this isn't standard protocol. I can't allow you to-" Rhodey reached into his jacket and produced a manilla folder, affixed with a crimson wax seal. "I'm here at the pleasure of the President, and the Commission on Extra-Terrestrial Attacks Upon the United States." The agent's eyes widened as she looked at the seal on the envelope "This is- I- the General should open this-" "He should!" Rhodey said, snatching the envelope out of her grasp and continuing past her.
Making his way up the steps leading to the Situation Room, he felt every eye in the room upon his back. So much for not making a scene... The door slid open at his approach, and he stepped inside. Snapping his polished shoes together, he saluted the man within crisply. The gesture wasn't required in this context, but Rhodes did so all the same. "General Fury, Lieutenant Colonel Rhodes, reporting on behalf of the President and the Jotun Commission. I believe you were expecting me?"
