Her smile was so wide, relieved as he landed on the platform, she was torn between weeping, hugging him, and smacking him. Instead, she pulled herself together and hid her varied emotions behind the mask of quiet approval she usually wore when he finally did something she wanted him to do.
As soon as he's agreed to come in, Pepper had hurried into the kitchen to make something for him - for both of them - so that by the time he landed, she was ready to at least start feeding him. Handing him a thermos, she said, "Soup; vegetable. Don't make a face, just drink it. It's warm."
She had a protein shake for him, too, and gatorade, and water.
"You're going to have sores when you finally take that off." He looked so exhausted. "Is there anything I can do for you while you're here?"
