"Not stalling." Scott said defensively, holding up his hands to show Barda he didn't mean to upset her. Scott took one of the coffee cups from Alfred with a grateful nod, and murmured thanks, sipping it after adding cream and sugar. "Try putting sugar in it." He said to Barda and pointed to the powdery, crystal substance in the delicate china that was used to serve coffee.
Once Barda had her coffee, Scott moved to sit across from Bruce so they could talk, and leaned his forearms on his knees, holding his coffee in both hands in front of him.
"I got back some time ago. I hadn't realized I'd been gone... so long." He said, delicately not mentioning how old Bruce had gotten in his absence-- or the fact that he now seemed to have a teenaged daughter. "Up until now, I was in SWORD's custody, but now that Barda's here..." Scott glanced over at her before looking back at Bruce, trying to find a polite way of phrasing that 1) she was trying to take him back to Apokolips (And would not succeed) and 2) that he was now taking full responsibility for her safety and well-being... which was where Bruce's help came in.
Scott didn't quite cringe to ask it, but he was clearly aware of how uncomfortable this question could be, for everyone involved, "If you have room, do you think you could let us stay here for a while?" He asked, quickly qualifying the question with an explanation, "Just until I contact Oberon and Ted and we get the show going again-- that should bring in enough money for us to get back on our feet, as it were."
