Not far from the official SHIELD HQ at the base of the mountain, in the valley, there was outpost at a much further altitude. Thhe outpost, what amounted to a glorified ice fishing on steroids shake on the side of a mountain, had been a thing of the past, from the early days of SHIELD and hadn't seen the light of day in a few years. Needless to say, there were more than a few cobwebs hanging, not to mention everything was coated in a thick layer of dust. It the responsibility of Agent Barton and Romanova to see that the outpost was up and running and fully opporational and in short order, at that.
They were most definitely being invaded, those were the reports coming in. Although they were away from the fight, the outpost in The Catskills would provide a handy lookout point for anything that would be coming their way from that direction; they would be helpful in other ways.
They had taken a Jeep out there, but rest of the trek had to be made had to be made by foot. That is, up the side of the mountain, which meant they had to carry all the gear they needed with them. Mostly things necessary for communicating with the headquarters at large, but also what would be needed for their survival.
He said he was going for a walk. But that was four hours ago. He left a bulk of the computer-wrangling up to Natalia, his partner. Clint needed to go out and see what was going on, taking what was to be the first of many, patrols to keep on the look out for Frost Giants moving in. Also, he needed to fix the satelite dish, since Natalia had informed him they had had a bad signal. Saddled up with rope and an ice axe, Clint made his way outside to assess the sattelite situation and discovered that something, some kind of rodent perhaps, had chewed through the cable.
He was only returning to the outpost, blanched with snow and half frozen.
"Oh, you got the heat working," he breathed a sigh of realief, pushing back his fur-lined hood and removing his goggles. "Signal should be up and running," he informed her. "We should be good to go," he said, place his gear carefully beside the door, and hanging the wound up rope. "And no sign of any Frost Giants so far." And then after a pause he added, "Its fucking cold out there."
