Kissing him back, Lois let herself be held by him, her arms going around his neck. "Clark - I trust you. I never really trusted Lex, not in all the time I've known him, and even then, I couldn't tell you why. I know you wouldn't hold me back; you do the exact opposite."
Touching his face again, she said quietly, "And you don't just keep me safe - you make it okay for me to be kept safe, and be taken care of. I don't do that well. You do it without making me feel weak, and you let me feel like you need me to take care of you, even though I know damn well you don't. And you give me more love than I will ever be able to give you in my lifetime, but I have never wanted anything more than to try."
She kissed him, hard and deep, ignoring the fact that they were at work, their co-workers all around them. Most of them knew better than to comment. "It doesn't hurt anymore," she promised. "He doesn't matter, just you. I know you trust and love me, and I don't blame you for not trusting him. But don't worry - I can handle Lex, and Clark... you're my everything, too."
