Meanwhile in Latveria...
Latveria was no exception to the attack.
It was dark when the flashes of icy blue swelled in the storm clouds, snow and ice hailing down, and with it came the giants of the same hue. Their red eyes glared, pointy teeth parting to issue their monstrous challenges, then they started rushing through the villages, weapons swinging. The denizens had mostly been sleeping, and were entirely taken by surprise.
But not the Servo-bots that stood guard. Lazers began firing, and even as the giants started to make leeway to the smaller robots that aided to keep the peace and began to smash them, the few remaining doombots rushed in. Their artificial intelligence was much keener, much more able to assess the situation and determine what could bring the giants down swiftly. Alarms were going off throughout the city, and every able-bodied person in active military duty (which was quite a sum, since military service was mandatory), hurried to stations that sprung from the ground to arm themselves.
"What is the situation?" Victor demanded. He had been woken from his sleep as well, but any sluggish effect was gone already. Two of his officials were hurrying after him, and one offered a video screen of some of the chaos of the ice giants. The dictator barely paused in his step as he narrowed his eyes at the screen. "Jotun. They dare...!"
"You have an incoming transmission from Lord Kristoff von Doom in New York, my liege."
Doom made a motion with his hand, indicating for it to be sent to his armor. After giving the security mental permission, he spoke to his adopted heir briefly, then hurried up the stairs before him two at a time, snapping orders. The officials hurried away swiftly. The citizens of Latveria would handle this disaster better than many countries. Dr. Doom had other things that concerned him, mainly the portals. He turned at the end of the hall, the stained glass windows decorating it suddenly a blur as he shot upward.
The wind on the roof of the castle lashed his green cloak vicionsly, the chilly bite of snow greetings cold alloy as the ruler surveyed the city beneath, the flashes of shooting in the darkened night, and the strange, blue glows from above.
A new transmission was received by his suit. "Portal locals locked. Awaiting your command to fire, my liege."
"Fire."
The missiles lunged from the ground around the city, mechanically turning toward the portal above Doomstadt. Their streaks of yellow and orange made a contrasting color against the white lights of the blue glows. The portals above ceased dropping giants for a brief second, then pulsed with a brilliant light.
"Continue firing random pulses into the portals," Victor instructed calmly. He was already stilling his mind, finding that clairvoyent void within.
Doom stood on the rooftop, hands out with palms up. A low hum came from his throat, and mingled perfectly into the hum of magic starting to engulf him, frequencies and pitches becoming a single, unified buzz. The red sphere circled him, and then golden lines started to trace about its surface. He mentally accessed the computers, and it started its arduous work of mapping as he enlarged the spell...
Doom would be damned if he was going to let someone overrun his planet...
