Bruce smirked. "I noticed," he confirmed. "You reminded me of a cat, sitting in the window, longing to go out." The comparison had always amused him. Turning his face into her hair, he inhaled, enjoying the scent of her. She had always smelled like sandalwood - at least out of the leather - but right now she smelled like him, and there was something deeply satisfying in that.
He didn't know if she, if anyone but Clark, could really understand about the Mystique. Maybe it was simply egotism to feel that way, but when you're built up to be a god or a demon, people expect nothing human from you.
"Sometimes I think that the reason you and I work is that you know both of me - Bruce and Batman," he said quietly. "You know the urban legend and the all-too-human man, even if both are masks. Think about seeing Bruce climb the side of a building using parkour, or watching Batman club dance. It's not just jarring, it destroys the illusion. It's one of the reasons I had to stop sleeping with my dates - they'd go to bed with Bruce Wayne, but they always woke up with me."
Bruce didn't ask Selina many questions about her past. Much of it he already knew, and the rest he figured she would tell him of her own free will when she was ready to. Kissing her temple when she shuddered, Bruce said, "If you ever get to see Kal... in something other than the suit, which I'd like to hope you will someday, you might notice a resemblance."
There weren't many people Bruce trusted a great deal, but between Clark and Tony, there was very little he wouldn't do for them, and he knew the feeling was mutual. The same could only be said for his family, Alfred, and now Selina. "Tony values those who are straight with him; even if he doesn't like what they have to say." Bruce smiled. "Of course, he does enjoy the ego-stroking as well, but he likes it more when it's from people he trusts."
Bruce chuckling, thinking of his unflappable manservant. "Alfred has been with me since I was six, and he's served me breakfast in bed every morning I actually sleep, ever since I came home. If you can imagine what he might have seen in all that time, then you'll know that nothing phases him. And he has an uncanny sense for knowing exactly when is the appropriate time to come if the usual time is inconvenient. He's a good man."
Kissing her jaw, then her neck with a soft smile, Bruce added, "Very, very lucky."
