"What's the worst that could happen?"
Barbara knew those were famous last words, even as she uttered them. She stared down at the twenty-story drop to the street below and felt the smallest bit of apprehension. Sure, she had long since lost that sense of vertigo that told you not to stand on the ledge of a tall building, but that didn't mean she had no reservations about what she was about to do. Her red hair and cape waved in the strong breezes up here, and she stood for a long moment reminding herself that she had prepared for this. She had tested her equipment and worked her body to its limits. Her line would hold, and if there was one thing that she absolutely wasn't worried about, it was her upper body strength.
"Okay, Babs. You can do this...why am I talking to myself?" She sighed, knowing she really needed to curb in those inner monologue issues in if she was going to once again be stealthy, sneaky vengance in the night. The best thing would be to just get it over with, so she steeled her nerves, shot a line out and stepped out into the thin air. Time seemed to stop for a moment before rushing back into focus as she found herself soaring through the sky. For a moment, she reached the peak of her swing and let the line go, finding herself in free motion. Her arms were thrown out wide, welcoming back the night which had always been such a close friend to her in the past. She quickly shot out another line, hooking it around a gargoyle protrusion and reeling herself upward.
She kicked her legs forward, swinging up and lighting atop the architectural feature. Her heart was pounding. She felt lightheaded. She let out a shuttering breath, and for a moment her vision went blurry. She reached a gloved hand up, wiping the tears from her eyes. It was a miracle.
She hadn't even believed those could happen in Gotham anymore.
