Who: The Joker
NPCs: Punch, Judy, Victims
Where: Somewhere outside of Gotham City, NJ
When: June 17, 0100
What: Joker spends a nice quiet evening at home. Oh, he's also testing the limits of the Fear Gas he got from Crane.
Rating: F for Fear? Probably high.
"And when did you start experiencing this pain?" It was a valid question and it would take only an expert to recognize the subtle mockery laced into each and every word. Eyes empty of any sort of emotion regarded the man who shook and solid himself on the chair. He was a young man in his early twenties with the coal black hair of his Asian ancestry. His face was scrunched tight in terror and beads of sweat dotted his forehead as tears left lines down his face. "Hmm?" Joker inquired again.
"Whu-what?" This man croaked out and his hands began to spasm on the wooden chair he was lashed too. The knuckles on his right hand had turned white already. Fascinating.
"The pain in your cheek that you just described." The clown cooed around the smoking pipe held between his teeth. Pale fingers curled around the bowl of the pipe and his thumb tapped idly on the shank of it as he spoke again. "When did you start experiencing it?"
"When?" Dark eyes moved from The Joker to the two bruisers that flanked him. "Wh-when y-you told them to h-hit me." He blubbered.
The psychopath nodded his head in sudden understanding. He plucked a pen from his coat pocket and jotted that down on a note pad opened on his lap. "Wunderbar! Progress!" He exclaimed and he threw the note pad into the air and practically jumped from his chair. A hand tucked in close to his lower back and he idly tapped the bit of the pipe against his chin. "We've made admirable progress today Bobby." And with that bit of encouragement Joker gave the man a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
The madman continued in that voice like honey and arsenic as he paced the room. "Now that we have discovered the source of your pain, we can begin to dissect why you fear something so..." Joker paused as he searched for the word he wanted to use, "necessary to live." The clown stroked a bust of Sigmund Freud that had been defaced with two black circles of permanent ink and a line of red. The comparison between Joker and Freud was uncanny thanks in large part to the fake beard and glasses the clown wore.
"And to do that we'll need to use some very experimental techniques." Laughter began to bubble up from deep inside the monster. He turned with a flourish and shooed the henchmen away with a flick of his wrist. "Push my 2 o'clock back boys. I think Bobby and I have some real exploration a head of us."
Punch and Judy backed out of the room like wraiths and the only sign of their passing was the hiss of the door over concrete floors. Joker took a brightly colored box from his desk and dragged his chair closer to Bobby's. He seated himself close enough that their knees were touching and he could stare directly into the boy's face as the gas went to work.
The box sat neatly on the clowns lap and a song began to play as he cranked a dial on the side of the box. "A shave and a hair cut.." He sang to himself. "Two bits." And with that the box burst open into a cloud of gas. It hit Joker in the face first and the clown inhaled deeply. "Mmm. I hope you don't mind that I added a scent. Crane hadn't thought of that and I was tired of that day-old eggs stench every time I gassed myself."
Bobby pulled back and held his breath hoping to keep the deadly toxin away from him. Oh god he didn't want to end up a grinning corpse like he'd seen on TV. The tears poured silently down his cheeks. "Tsk tsk tsk! That's cheating!" Joker crooned and slapped Bobby across the face. The man gasped in shock and the gas hit him.
It took another couple moments of panicked breaths before the neuroses and fears started to take hold. It took nearly a half hour of screaming and laughter before Bobby's mind snapped. Once that was over, it was time to carve a little smile on the poor man's face. A nice memento from his psychiatrist. Another satisfied customer!
