For a moment Kyle bit his tongue. "You'll do." Whether she knew it or not, and he was pretty sure that she did not, her words actually rang true. Because despite all he had done and sacrificed for the Corps, it still came right down to that. The simple fact that his ring had not actually chosen him. No. He'd simply been the one to walk into that alley that night, at that time.

Taking a long drink from his beer, he failed to hear what else Jen said, but nodded absently to Guy. Rising from where he had been sitting, he got up and went over to the television, reaching down to grab the remote from where it had ended up on the floor. The motion seemed simple enough, but it made him wince slightly.
Standing upright, he tossed the remote at Guy, because hey-throwing things seemed to be what they did. "Should be able to find something. If not I think Jen has a song and dance routine for us."
He glanced at her, half expecting another double set of middle finger constructs. "How much was the pizza?"
