"No illegality required," Doug said, leaning back. "Hugh's a cool guy, we talk. And I'm off the grid. I'm not using my old user names on the internet, which is how 'he' found me to begin with. I'm still registered at the empty house my parents haven't even tried to sell yet. They wanted me to finish school... I've been given some freedom, considering to try to stop 'him' I had to... hack them," he finished quietly.
"It's nice to know you care, though," Doug added, after taking a few more bites of his sandwich. "I don't exactly have a lot of friends, and that you know... my girlfriend," he trailed off. It was still weird calling her that. Good weird, but weird. He sipped at his soup spoon thoughtfully. "Thank you."
