Tim nodded, satisfied. This was indeed not how he had wanted to give her that necklace. In his mind it had always played off in some hugely romantic moment, but he supposed in light of everything else he would just have to settle. For now.
"I'm glad you like it", Tim said. His hands found their way to her waist as he spoke. "That's..." He trailed off, looked down a moment, and raised his eyes once more.
"That's not the only thing I have for you", he said, having regained his composure. Very slowly he reached up, and for a moment it seemed as though he intended to pull back Stephanie's mask to see her face, as he had in the past. Instead he turned his hands toward his own face, carefully removing his mask. This was not how he imagined it either, but if he went through on everything he intended, it was the only way he could maintain some form of contact with her.
If he had intended to say anything, his words failed him as he stood there with his domino mask in his hands. It was the first time he was able to look at her without any disguise at all, with her knowing full well who he was-now more than ever-and in the moment he had no words. No words but the hint of a small smile. His first in weeks.
