*OOC* This turned out to be waaay too long so I'm breaking it up into a couple parts
The Research and Development labs at Osborn Industries were a busy place. Dozens of scientists and assistants toiled away, trying to stay ahead of the churning wheels of progress that governed the corporate world. It was a place of efficiency and quiet energy, with it's own sort of serenity. It was also a place where Norman Osborn worked, and so that serenity was from time to time utterly shattered.
"So, did you talk to him?" Norman didn't look up from the progress reports he was looking over as one of his assistants approached.
"Well...that is..." The man had a pained expression on his face.
"Wilson you're babbling like an idiot so I'm going to take that as a no."
"Now Mr. Osborn I did speak to Captain Rogers and I explained our proposal..."
"MY proposal, Wilson. Rogers was my idea, and those idiots on the board thought it was a bad one."
"Yes sir. I did speak to him, but he turned us down."
"Turned us down?!" Norman slammed down his clipboard. "He knows we're just going to turn around and sell it back to his own government right? Did you explain to him the number of zeros on the check we would cut him?"
"Yes sir, but...he's a national icon. It's not as though he needs the money..."
"Bah, it's always a matter of money. And if not money then something else that somebody wants. Have you tried throwing women at him? Men? Barnyard animals? I'm not leaving anything off the table. What do you see here Wilson? That's right," Norman cut him off before he could answer, throwing an arm over the other man's shoulders and leading him onto the research floor. "Five years and several billion dollars worth of research, and we are this close to unlocking the formula that will make Osborn Industries the most powerful corporation in the world. Except these MONKEYS can't seem to get it locked down! Do you hear that monkeys?" He turned to harangue the scattered researchers, who took it as just another day at the office. "Howard Stark managed it 70 years ago with vacuum tubes and god-damned Vita-rays, whatever those are. And you can't do it with gene sequencers and super computers!"
Calming himself he returned to his narrative. "But then they found him, Wilson. Like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The man that all of this is based on. Captain bloody America! His blood holds the key to everything. The bidding period for this year's defense contracts are over in just two short weeks. And here you are telling me that this thing I need, this one little thing, is beyond your ability to get for me? You're telling me that this company is going to lose out to Hammer Industries or Wayne Enterprises or god forbid that smarmy bastard Stark? Wilson my boy, what am I paying you for then?"
"Well, I can talk to him again sir..."
"Damn right you can! And do it right this time. I don't care what you have to do, who you have to bribe, who you have to kill and who you have to frame for it. Hell if you have to sneak onto Fury's little flying tree house, smack Rogers on the head with a sack of marbles and throw him in a burlap sack for all I care! Just get me Captain America!"
