Direct questions were far easier. It felt less forced, less like the beginning of a novel. Damian had little doubt that his father would learn everything in time (world's greatest detective) but it was hard to discern his current priorities. Damian might have known about his father but he couldn't say he understood him. Not yet.
"I took a plane." There was a tiny smidgen of condescension in his tone because securing transport was not a difficult thing. "I've been in the city since the beginning of April. I've been..."
Damian paused again. It had been over two months and while he had plenty of reasons why he'd been avoiding the manor they all skirted around the truth. He hadn't gone to see his father because he hadn't known how. It wasn't a rational feeling and that made it all the more infuriating.
"I've been busy," Damian said instead, trying to effect a nonchalant tone that sounded more stubborn and defensive than anything. "Getting acquainted with the city. To better help you."
