Change. It was suppose to be inevitable. However an unstoppable force has no reason to change, no motivation or desire to do so. It did what it pleased. And right now, the chemicals oozing from beakers and test tubes were exactly what this unstoppable force wanted. Liquids spanning every color of the spectrum gave the laboratory a rather magical look. The most prominent among them was purple. The color of royalty. The color of The Joker.
The clown moved about the lab, a small little ditty caught on his lips. The game was a foot and there was no time to waste! Gasoline was his favorite thing of all but tonight.. oooh tonight he would be playing with a whole gamut of flammables. Anything to get the Gotham Fire Department caught up in the game. Anything to distract Batty from his nights of moping in a cave somewhere. The clown was an entertainer and for that past few months his patented brand of humor had been absent from the streets of Gotham. Tonight would be a reminder and a send off. Harley's send off.
The Clown Prince paused at his laboratory door and pressed purple leather to the wood grains. He could hear the cartoons on the television that Harley enjoyed in the late hours of the night. A small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he thought of her there, curled up under a blanket with the pups. So predictable. Her love of Daffy Duck would be her death.
Gangly legs propelled him around the lab and he emptied vats on the floor with a flourish. Chemicals mixed together on the concrete floor and with the spark of a match, he set the lab a blaze. Practically giddy with joy the clown skipped out into the night air and he took a deep breath of Gotham's stench.
The rumble of an engine drew closer and Punch pulled the purple convertible to a stop in front of Joker. "Here you go, Boss. Gassed up just like you asked." The large man climbed out of the driver's seat and moved to a u-haul hitched to the back of the vehicle. "And I got everything loaded in the trailer like you asked." Joker planted his hands and vaulted over the door and on to the passenger seat.
"Good good. And Judy?" The clown looked through the open exterior door that lead directly into his lab. The flames danced happily along the ground and began eating away at wood tables and shelving units.
"He just finished planting the charges." Punch watched as the Joker slid down into the passenger seat and realized he would be playing chauffeur for the clown.
"Marvelous!" The clown said and let a giggle or three escape. Just as his laughter was winding to a halt Judy appeared around the corner of the plant. Ever the stoic henchman, Judy slapped the detonator into Joker's hand.
"Alright kiddies. Into the car with Mister J! We've got work to do and a whole night's drive a head of us!" The clown fingered the detonator which set large rolls of unused printing paper left inside a blaze. Within a matter of minutes the plant would be engulfed in flames. As he did that Punch took his place at the wheel and Judy climbed into the trailer. "Quickly Punch! We can't stop here. After all this is Bat Country." With that the car took off and the Joker's laughter was unleashed upon the night air.
