Sometimes, Clark liked to pop in at Kara's place, to stock up her fridge. He felt it was helpful, and she was always appreciative, especially when he remembered ice-cream. Which he always did. He was all smiles as he walked up the steps, and took out the key, going for the door-knob.
"Another delivery, Mr. Kent?"
He turned around and spotted one of Kara's neighbors, the friendly Mrs. Hibbs, a woman in her 40's who lived down the hall with her husband. "Yep," he said, smiling, and carefully "balancing" the grocery bags. "Can't have her running low on good food."
Mrs. Hibbs smiled. "That's very kind of you, Mr. Kent, taking care of your cousin like this. Oh! I wanted to say, I was surprised to learn that she has a boyfriend!"
Clark's smile faded into a look of disbelief. "B-boyfriend?"
"Yes, the red-headed boy who came to visit a few days ago. They left holding hands, it was very sweet. Oh, excuse me, I think I hear the telephone." Mrs. Hibbs disappeared back into her own apartment, leaving Clark stunned in the hallway.
"H-holding hands?" he finally spoke aloud into the empty space. "K-Kara? Boys?" Something shifted in the bags and he remembered why he was there. Slowly, he let himself into her apartment, calling out hesitantly, "Kara?" No reply, she wasn't home.
After putting the things away, Clark sat heavily in a chair at the table. Boys? Kara? Her? Them? But she was so young... seventeen! His mind raced back to his teens, and the thoughts teenaged boys had about young women... what they did on dates....
....Ohgod. Fumbling for his phone, he dialed a number and started pacing. The phone rang and rang, and by the time the other party picked up, he was fully panicked. "Kara! Boys! HAND HOLDING!" he spluttered/yelled.
