"You're sweet, Reed," Susan said, in the sort of tone that indicated she was going to what she wanted anyway. She smiled inwardly at the way Reed completely missed the subtext behind her comment, because she was fairly certain no other man would have. Sue found her husband's cluelessness so very endearing at moments like these. "And who says the gifts are entirely for your benefit?" she countered with a tease.
She stood, and let Reed help her into her jacket. "Oh, that's easy," and it was easy, because Sue actually had quite the imagination. She was an excellent story teller. Just ask Johnny about Captain America. "And I'd tell you... but knowing our luck, it would wind up in the papers tomorrow with our picture and I'd have to spend the day correcting my own bad press," she finished with a roll of her eyes, as they were making their way to the exit.
But you wouldn't know it from the friendly way she chose to greet the paparazzi who were all vying for their attention: "Hi! Are you guys here for the food? No? Well, it's great. Yes, we're celebrating our anniversary... so I think you'll all understand our desire to disappear.."
Sue kept her hold on Reed's hand the entire time, the two of them close together, in step, as they dealt with brushing off the paparazzi so they could continue their evening in peace. Sue didn't feel the least bit guilty using her powers to turn herself and Reed invisible so that they could slip away.
