"Thank you," she said, when Reed clasped the necklace in place, turning her head enough to give a kiss that was as sincere as her words. Not to worry, it was completely within the acceptable parameters for a public display of affection, by anyone's standard.
"You'll have to wait until we get back for your gifts. I left them at home," Sue said in a voice only Reed could hear. Then, returning to a normal volume, in a bright voice, "Should we go? Our adoring fans are waiting."
