Who: Green Arrow I (Oliver Queen) & Black Widow II (Natasha Romanov) NPCs: Eddie Fyers, The Royal Flush Gang When: Backdated, Thursday May 24 2012 Where: Offiice building in South Bronx, New York What: Green Arrow gets recruited to the Avengers in the midst of trying to stop the Royal Flush Gang from getting their hands on information they're looking to sell. Rating: Mature. Language, for sure, and probably a lot of controversial stuff. It's GA, and you want him to work for spies.
"I thought I told you never to call me again," Ollie said grumpily when he answered the phone.
"Still owe you that forty bucks," said Fyers. "And I've got a tip to pass on. Elevast Corp has a new shell company. Through that, they've contracted out to the Royal Flush Gang. to do a job for them in the South Bronx."
"What are they after?"
"Information. Technology. Information that will create technology."
Ollie scrubbed a hand across his face, trying not to sound any more irritated than he already was. "The Royal Flush Gang is based in Vegas. They rob casinos. What the hell would they want with a job like that?"
"Quid pro quo? Hell if I know, I'm just freelance these days. Don't shoot the fucking messenger. They're probably taking a 'vacation' in Atlantic City." Eddie shot back, as unwilling to mince words or put up with bullshit as ever. "Just thought our old pal Flynn might wanna check it out. Follow up."
"Yeah, yeah, I'm sure he will," Ollie agreed; the Errol Flynn reference nearly made him smile. It was such an old joke to refer to Green Arrow that way, because Errol Flynn really was one of his favorite actors. Certainly, his favourite actor to portray Robin Hood. "Where did you say this was going down? And when?"
The more experienced of the Green Arrows was working solo tonight. He didn't want anyone else involved, especially not Speedy and Green Arrow--Mia and Connor--involved until he knew more. Eddie Fyers was already involved, which meant that Black Canary would definitely kill him if he did involve them without good reason and without taking Eddie out of the equation. Canary had a history with Eddie, and it was… not so good.
These were the kind of things Oliver had time to reflect on as he waited for the Royal Flush Gang to make their appearance, and make their play. It was always a waiting game, at first. He could wait all night if he had to. Beyond his bow and his arrows, an archer's patience was his greatest weapon: the ability to wait until the precise moment, and then let go.
Of course, having a few trick arrows stashed away in your quiver never hurt, either.
Ollie counted to 30. He liked to be generous, and give them a bit of a head start. Robin Hood was charitable, after all.
He shot off several trick arrows of the exploding or tear gas variety to confuse and distract them while he safely got inside to fight them up close, but was in for a surprise himself when the smoke cleared.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had been nice enough to send him a partner for tonight (not that he could be sure of that, yet). And what a stunning partner she was. Wow. He was almost a little taken aback, but it only served to make him grin wider.
