Monday's debriefing went no better than Thursday's. The Joker was still out, and now the Riddler had gone crazy crazier too.
"Everyone's on regular shifts for now, and I mean not a minute over. Get your sleep, keep your eyes peeled, stay sharp. But no one's got days off for the next week. It's crunch time, people! The Joker's loose, and you all ought to know by now that he'll be itching to pull off something big. And as if that weren't enough, the Riddler's out there killing too. If you see the Bat-- or any other supers-- don't hang around trying to figure out what all the fuss is. Call for backup immediately, and if it turns out they're just out picking flowers, then we'll all sit down and make daisy chains together. And now is NOT the time to go commando if you see a freak. Wait for the backup and stick to protocol."
Renee was no happier than anyone else to hear that her next day off would now be on, but she suppressed her own groan-- there was enough grousing happening-- and headed out the door. At least the weather was good, she noted as she nodded hello to Larry, who always did a brisk business in coffee and hot dogs right outside the station house. She crossed the street and turned the corner, planning a route through the financial district and into a slightly rougher neighborhood. There were a few people who might be able to tell her the word going around on the Riddler or the Joker.
