Cypher smiled. He was not Doug now; he was Cypher. Doug was sleeping underneath, his trojan horse, his secret window to the truth. This one came easy, because as far as he could see, there were no death traps. Computer data didn't bleed and die. He'd spent the last week preparing himself for this, steeling himself, hoping to become an expert liar.
He had one edge, and that was all of the subtle hints in body language that his time with Batgirl had made him keenly aware of. There were ways to exude confidence, excitement, and most importantly, sincerity. He was also willing to use his own natural excitement at the thrill of hacking through one of the most mysterious, secretive agencies on the planet: SHIELD. The thrill of the challenge alone was going to make his lie that much more convincing.
Turning to Eddie, Doug leaned back and swiveled in his chair, back and forth. Grinning, he said, "You don't think this will be too easy, do you? I've been studying their code language for weeks now. I know it inside and out." Truth in plain sight. Don't hide his skill, so later he could send small messages to SHIELD without scrutiny. Deception was a language of misleading grammar: Cypher just worked on removing the tells.
