Steph's shackles relaxed a little as the danger sign stopped blinking and she felt like she could talk her way out of this hole she'd dug herself into again.
"He reformed once you know," she found herself saying, recalling the happy times when Arthur Brown was actually a decent citizen. It did not last. "But he couldn't stop his obsession. He wasn't trying to steal the Ridder's thing (even though I guess they share the same reasons), he just wanted money attention and for some crazy reason that no one will understand, he gave everyone a chance to stop him if they figured out his clues."
She didn't know why she was sharing this bit of info. She just did. And as she watched him walk away, she picked up the box he had left behind and held it in her hand.
