Grimacing and shifting his weight from one foot to another, Doug chose his words very carefully. "Johanna was great, and we did the corsage thing, and she and her brother have already left for home. That," he waved at the box on the outcropping, "was meant for someone... uh... for someone else who couldn't exactly come to prom and... she, well, it's complicated?"
He leaned against the wall and exhaled sharply. "And I'm not sure it's really a good idea any more." Doug laughed and smiled in that way where he realized it wouldn't convince anyone. "I really wish I could talk about this, but it's such a... unique situation and... you don't exactly even like me because I'm... and now I'm talking way too much. Again."
