FIVE DRINKS LATER
Given the rocky start to the evening, Jen was having quite a lot of fun. Once the creepy meta-chaser had been given the boot, Jen could relax. She was used to people staring by now but when people started getting a bit to fresh and a bit too forward, that's where she drew the line. Otherwise she didn't mind the occasional double takes, or the innocent questions, and of course, the attention that it garnered. Like now, the guy who was chatting her up - tall, dark and handsome. Jennie was just buzzed enough to be receptive to his advances and flirt back. That is, until he got all spooked about something and excused himself from the conversation.
"Well, that was weird," she said to Roy, too tipsy to be anything but oblivious to the fact that it was him what scared off her would-be paramour. "Huh," she said thoughtfully, give her drink a swizzle and stabbing her lime wedge with her straw. Maybe she was loosing her edge. It had been months, after all, since she had hooked up with anyone. Far too long, if you asked her. But she mostly blamed that on an inconducive living environment, with her twin sleeping on the hide-a-bed in the living room and the space cop a door down the hall.
Turning towards Roy, their knees bumped and Jen laughed. "Oh! Thanks!" She said, looking down at the lacy bit, not really knowing what to say since she didn't think Roy would have cared to notice, or hear what she'd have to say about fashion trends.
Instead of trying to look serious when he announced he had a question, Jen just grinned. What was 'serious' for Roy was not necessarily 'serious' for Jennie and could only imagine what he was going to ask her...
- Can you take your top off? - Can you babysit? - Seriously, what about your top? Can you take it off now?
... Were all questions that came to mind. Which is why when what he did ask actually was semi-serious, Jen was taken aback. "Huh," she said again, this time considering his quest. "I'm sure there is a good answer," she started. "I just, um...I don't know if I have one right now." Because she was either drunk or picking up on all the cues they were being given by the universe that night. She would have to have been completely dense not to, otherwise. Vaguely she recalled him having once been unsavory, but that was along time ago now. Were first impressions that long-lasting? Jen just shrugged.
