"Oh no, no. You didn't," Wanda said quickly. She moved to his side and rested her hand on his arm as a gesture of reassurance. "The flowers are lovely and I'm glad you thought of me and my children. It was very sweet. It's just... it's been a rough couple days for me, that's all."
"Why thank you. I only hope it tastes as delicious as it smells." She was glad when he brought of the food. It was a good way to move the conversation to something that wouldn't ruin their perfectly good evening. "Why don't you take a seat at the table while I'll get the plates ready. It should only be a minute."
With that, Wanda went back into the kitchen and started dishing out portions of the lasagna, salad and a single bread stick onto each of their plates. A couple minutes later, she approached the table and set a plate down in front of Tom.
"Here you are," she said with a smile. "There is more than enough for seconds if you want more."
