Who: Ianto Jones and Martha Jones
What: Testing waters and making life 'difficult' for Jack
When: Backdated to a day or so AFTER "The Many Loves of Captain Jack Harkness", before Tosh's return
Where: Cardiff Hub
Why: Because we say so!
Status: Closed, complete (log)
Ianto had gotten a few new suits. Since all of his stuff was in storage because of his absence, he needed a few to have at the Hub until he had time to go through everything. He finished getting dressed, wincing and hissing the whole way through. He would have shaved but he was just proud of himself for getting dressed by himself.
Carefully he put his arm back into the sling, before going back up to the Hub. Martha would be on his case about taking it easy, but he couldn't. She'd given him pills to take away the pain and laying around would drive him nuts. So did the fact that the archives were a hot mess. Maybe he could sneak down there for a few hours... days...
Admittedly, when she'd ordered Ianto on bed rest , Martha hadn't thought he'd follow directions. Hoped yes, but expected it, no. They knew one another too well for that and he'd been away, and yes Archives was a mess but there was time for that now! He had time. But he'd probably want to get right to it. All the same, as she sat at Tosh's old station compiling data on the latest outbreak trying to determine where the Patient Zero might be, because she had a hunch it was not Terran in origin, she could completely understand it. Being with Torchwood had a tendency of making you work harder.
She clicked another of the cases, reviewing the files with a very scrutinizing eye, she heard someone moving around - and because Jack was out at the moment - she had a good idea of who it was. The last days had been interesting. This thing they now had going on. The three of them. Part of her was playing a bit of a game, waiting to see how long it would take Gwen to notice that something was going on. Just because she was curious.
Despite the fact that she knew what Ianto was not going to be doing, she turned around with a small smile on her lips and said the line that seemed to be becoming her catch phrase. "Aren't you supposed to be resting?" she smirked. She already had a good idea of the response.
"I already did that, now I'm suppose to be working," he smiled, realizing good and well, he wouldn't be able to sneak down to the archives now. Ianto ran his hand through his hair, walking over to Martha's desk. He leaned on it, smiling at Martha. It was taking some adjusting all around, but Ianto had been preparing himself for this for some time. Before he found out about him and Martha. The fact that it was Martha, made his life a lot easier.
"Don't you take a break?" he asked, countering her question with another.
"A break when there's an outbreak of mystery illness around the clinics in Cardiff?" she replied with a grin. "Never. That's the fun of it." She paused for a moment before chuckling, shaking her head. "Besides, someone has to hold down the fort while you're supposed to be sleeping." She tilted her head to the side leaning on the desk, looking up at him.
This was something that the two of them really had to do, and she'd known this was coming. There hadn't been any awkwardness, but she needed to make certain that this was alright with him. But it was Ianto. And it made it easier. "There's a possibility that the illness is being caused by deluded energy from the rift," she explained. "I'm just trying to get to the bottom of it."
Martha tucked her feet behind her chair and let her shoulders drop. There was no good way to start a conversation like this, was there?
"Sounds like fun. I'm sure you'll figure it out. You're like the Hermione of Torchwood. But if Jack's Harry then we're fucked," he laughed, looking around the Hub. He could feel this awkwardness building. He didn't want it to be like that between them in any way. He didn't feel there was a need for it. He and Jack would have their time and she and Jack would have theirs.
Of course there was a good chance they'd all get some time together. Ianto hadn't had a three way since he was in college and those girls were far to drunk to do much of anything. "So, you a top or a bottom?" Ianto asked. He'd start, he didn't mind.
The comparison made Martha laugh. It broke the tension and succeeded in bringing her out of awkwardness. The two of them needed to be okay if this was going to work. "Depends on the situation," she admitted. "But its a bit different and you know that." she had to smirk at this. If only because sex for her was a bit different as far as the mechanics went than it was for Ianto and Jack - as a unit.
She decided to take control of the situation a bit. She pulled a leg up a bit and leaned her arm on it. "So you are okay with this, yes?" she knew that he'd already agreed to it. She sent him a smile. It was Ianto. And her and Ianto were close.
"Not true. Some girls like being on top. May be different equipment downstairs, but you can always choose how you like to ride. I tend to like being on top, but Jack and I trade off pretty evenly." The other night Jack had to top him. There was no way he could have held himself up and done any good.
"I told myself a long time ago that it was Jack. I had to expect it and I had to hope that I wasn't going to lose him. Actually is one of my biggest fears," Ianto said, keeping his voice low. "I was in shock for about ten minutes, but when he told me it was you and he promised we were all right, then all my worries went away. I'm fine," Ianto shrugged, smiling at her. "Are you?"
"Well you did tell me once that he bordered on the avant garde," she said poking at him verbal a bit - good naturedly. "It really depends on how I'm feeling. Always interesting to switch every so often." She found it interesting how easy it was to talk to him about this. But then they had always had a good understanding, and there really were no off limit topics.
"It wasn't something that we intended," she admitted to Ianto. "It happened, and I'll admit that at the time I initiated. We'd just finished outrunning a flock of vampires," she paused - were a group of vampires a flock? - "and I'd come this close to being bitten." If they were being honest then she was going to put all her cards on the table. "It wasn't done with the intent of hurting anyone," and by that she meant him, and her because she'd known where she stood. She hadn't told him about the other him that had been there in his place. That wasn't important. "I think I worried that when you came back it would all be over but..." She smiled over at him, shrugging. "Well we know what's going on here. And truthfully, if it was anyone else, I don't think I would be." Looking up at him she met his eyes, echoing the look on his face. "But it is. And you know Jack. He'd rather keep us both as close as he can. So... Yes." she nodded. "I think I am. But only because its you," she grinned.
"You and I are going to have a wicked time with this. You know how easy it is to get him going," Ianto smiled, the devil in his eyes. His hand moved up to rub his shoulder. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as it had been when he first got back. He wished he could lose the sling, but if he wasn't resting then he needed to do something she'd told him. "Just think, if he waltzed in here now and saw us kissing. First he'd get jealous, then he'd pout and then... well..." Ianto looked to the cog door, almost wishing Jack would walk through right now.
The look in Ianto's eyes momentarily took Martha by surprise. She didn't at first notice him rubbing his shoulder, instead grinning herself - almost evilly and nodding. "You know the Captain," she winked. "Doesn't like being left out of anything." And it was true. Also something that she liked seeing, that look in Jack's eye...
"And with two of us against one of him? He'll have to do what we say," she had to admit that having someone there to help her get Jack to do things like rest or - hell sometimes eat! It would be better for everyone. She trusted everyone here immensely, no more than Jack and Ianto, just after everything they'd all been through as a team. "An arrangement like this does have its perks after all."
"Man doesn't stand a chance. He has no idea what he's signed himself up for. He goes on about how things are in the 51st century? I think he's got a little taste of home, right here with you and me." Ianto's eyes moved away from the door, back to Martha.
It was true. If you put Ianto and Jack together, the captain had much more swagger to him, but charm? Ianto Jones could almost match with him. He still had that look in his eye as he watched Martha for a moment. They'd never kissed. How were they to be expected to share one another, if some of the basic boundaries had never been broken?
She thought back to what Jack had told her about the Nexus just a few weeks earlier, about losing his daughter for the second time. She really could understand the longing Jack must have felt and the reason for wanting to keep those he loved safe.
Martha managed a small smile. "Well we can certainly try to provide that for him." The man had a lot of mysteries, things he didn't want the world to know. Then again everyone had mysteries. Her, Ianto. Gwen probably had them somewhere, but of all of them she was possibly the most normal... perhaps the most adjusted to life beyond the aliens. "We'll have to take it easy on the man," she chuckled, as easy as Jack got. That really was a lark. "Wouldn't want him to be too tired out after all." Mind games took work after all.
"No, we wouldn't want that." Ianto was still watching her, his hand moving down from his shoulder to support himself on the desk. He leaned in so he'd catch her attention, eying her closely. Almost like a snake would watch a snake charmer. Yeah, if it had to be anyone to share with, Martha was the one. "Have to be careful not to tire yourself out either," he added. He and Jack had done a good job on each other, but three of them was going to take some practice.
Martha leaned in a bit, balancing her head against the heel of her hand. "Worrying about me already, Ianto?" she smirked finally catching the look that he was giving her. "I'm not sure if that's sweet or if I should be contemplating rethinking my battle strategy."
Yes she had definitely missed their bantering sessions!
"You can take that however you want Martha Jones. You just better be prepared when the time comes." They were rather close to one another now and Ianto smiled more. "Can you picture the look on his face. Bastard is probably watching CCTV of us right now. Either that or he'll come across it later, expecting a show of some kind." Ianto glanced up at one of the cameras, the wicked grin still on his lips.
"Oh you don't have to worry about me," she grinned. She winked at him before rolling her shoulder to loosen it up, moving positions. She continued to watch the same spot even as Ianto glanced up at the cameras. "Well it wouldn't surprise me if eventually he does. Someone has access to the security feeds," she smirked. "But looking at the cameras will just let him know that we're on to him." Wasn't really a joke, it was true. "Let him wonder what we're discussing. Other than ways to sabotage him." She could plot with the best of them. "What Jack doesn't know for certain, we can always use against him." She had a partner in crime now. She turned slightly herself, looking in a different direction, schooling her features
"Mmmm what a pickle we put him in. Just imagine, make him a spot of coffee, and then send him the file to look at first thing in the morning. Man won't know who to run to first," Ianto grinned. His hand came up and tipped her chin up, staring into her eyes. He looked at the camera that faced him and kissed at it, before his lips made the connection with Martha's. It was different, good though. He'd been so used to Jack's lips, but Martha's were soft, smaller. He remembered what it was like to kiss a girl. One had to be a little more gentle, but not much.
She'd been about to respond, something witty, something that cut to the point and perhaps furthered the verbal judo that seemed to be elevating the conversation and the mood in the room. Yes, Martha had been planning to do that, but Ianto had other plans. She watched as he made a show for the camera, and then got wind of just what he was thinking. If nothing else she could tell that Ianto was a very sneaky bloke. More importantly, he was good. She smiled against his lips, knowing exactly what he was doing. Jack was going to either love this or freak. She kissed Ianto back. She was right when she said this would be fun.
Ianto smiled back against her lips, exhaling slowly. "I thought I was out of practice," he said softly, sealing the deal with another quick kiss. "I think we're going to have a grand old time, Martha Jones." Ianto moved away from the desk, rubbing his slinged up elbow. He'd be so happy when he was free of this thing. How much longer was that?
The smirk that sat on her lips was understandable. She watched him as he backed away, noting his body language as he did. "I do believe that you're correct, Mister Jones." She crossed one leg over the other watching him. "You should be careful with that," she teased. "Sooner you listen to the Doctor's orders, the sooner you get that off and can play at your full capability."
"You don't think I can play at full capability yet? Martha Jones I only need one hand," he smiled. "I've been good. I've kept it in this thing. But if you want me to stop working, I don't think I can. To much to do. I'm not out hunting Weevils, just computer work and coffee. I've been a very good boy."
Martha pushed herself off the desk and circled around Ianto, taking in his physical condition. He did look better. She had to admit that. "Hmmm I'm certain you have." She had to smile herself. She knew how much the men of Torchwood hated having things - especially medical 'things' - restricting them. "I'm certain you have," she grinned, "but it will only be for a little while longer. As much as I know you hate it, the last thing we want is the shoulder popping out again or worse, healing wrong." There was concern in her voice. Of course there was. This was Ianto.
She paused for a moment, glancing at the camera. "Now we wait and see how long before he checks the files." This was fun.
"Are you checking my condition of my ass," he asked, looking over his shoulder at her. "Because there's not much to look at there, but it looks all right in a nice pair of slacks," he grinned. His eyes moved with her to the camera. "Knowing Jack, he'll find it soon and if he doesn't I'll be VERY surprised."
She grinned at his response. "I'll be certain to remember that," she walked back around and couldn't help but snicker to herself. "I don't yet think that Jack realizes that he truly has met his match in the two of us. He's utterly doomed."
